The trophy for winning the Best Finishing Award

Nominees from across all areas of the industry congregated at the Café de Paris in London on Tuesday the 15th of November to await the results. The book that claimed glory for TJ International was The Wander Society by Keri Smith, published March 2016 by Penguin. It was a privilege to work on such a creative design and vision for this book. The project required a great deal of focus on the finishing process to achieve a book that stands out on the shelf.

The final book was a quarter bound style, cloth sewn book, manufactured using our lithographic press. It was crucial that the finish reflected the natural feel of the design and content of the book. We therefore used a matt foil to block the front and back of the case. It also had an additional layer of textured cloth applied to the spine. This was then blocked with a contrasting matt foil. Coloured endpapers and matching head and tail bands added that extra uniqueness to the production.
