At TJ International we value the fact that we live and work in an area of outstanding natural beauty and care about the impact our processes have on the area, our staff and our neighbours. Our green policies are part of our core business activities and we could not make the achievements we have without the involvement and dedication of all our employees.

We have long been recognised in Cornwall for our commitment to the environment and strive to improve environmental standards across the book manufacturing industry. This has led to an excellent environmental image across our client base and supply chain.

In 2000 we achieved Certification to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. This system is driven by environmental objectives and targets to continually reduce waste, energy and resource use. In conjunction with this we have an Environmental Policy in place.

We have also held FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody Certification since 2006. We chose to implement Chain of Custody for customers requiring evidence of the use of paper from responsible sources in their products. The majority of our work is now produced on FSC® paper.

 

Company-wide support for the environment

Our environmental commitment is further reinforced through our Environment Committee which was established in 2004. The Committee is made up of members from across all departments, who meet quarterly to discuss and resolve environmental issues. All members have been trained in CIEH Level 2 Environmental Awareness in the Workplace. We also run a bespoke Environmental Awareness course for the whole workforce.

Every aspect of the way we work is continually reviewed to establish more sustainable ways of working.

Some of our environmental achievements

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System We were the first UK book manufacturer to be certified to this standard. It is an important global standard which shows we are successfully minimising our environmental impact.
  FSC® Certification We have held certification to FSC® since 2006. Chain of Custody certification provides evidence to our customers that our certified paper originates from responsible sources.
Environmental Awareness Training Scheme We have developed our own in-house training scheme in Environmental Awareness which we run for all staff in conjunction with Cornwall College Business.
